If you’ve been living under a rock ; ) YouTube is a free-to-use video sharing platform that makes it easy to watch online videos. You can create and upload your videos to share across all social media platforms and also embed videos to your website with YouTube in just a few clicks.

Why You Should Have A YouTube Channel

It’s really simple, people would rather watch videos than read! A recent study found that 72% of customers would rather learn about a product or service by way of video than alternatives like text or infographics. Videos are easier to process than large amounts of text and it captures emotion in a way that words alone simply cannot.

It’s one thing for a potential patient to read about your practice, staff, and services in a blog. However, it’s an entirely different experience when they can see your dental office and all it has to offer with their own eyes. For this reason, YouTube is an ideal marketing tool, yet, surprisingly, not all dental marketers have embraced the power of video and distribution channels like YouTube. Still not convinced? Here are some quick facts:

  • 76% of users are more likely to use a service after watching a video about it.
  • Marketers who use video grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users.

How To Create A YouTube Channel

Step 1

Before you can create a YouTube Channel, you will need to sign in to YouTube using your preferred Gmail address. This can be either your personal Gmail address or a Gmail address dedicated to the marketing for your practice. The “SIGN-IN” button will be in the top right corner of the page. If you don’t have a Gmail account yet, follow these steps.

Step 2

Once you are signed into YouTube, you will be ready to create a Channel. In the top right corner where it previously read “SIGN IN”, you will see either your profile picture or initials. Click on it and select “Create a Channel”.

Step 3

Now is the important part! Next, you will see this pop-up window. Don’t select your name here as it will then create a personal account. What you need is a “Brand Account” as it will allow you to grant access to the account for multiple users (this will be necessary if you ever need our marketing experts to take a look during your monthly meeting). This also allows you to choose your custom name which, in this case, will be the name of your dental practice. So, go ahead and select “Use a custom name”.

Step 4

If you see this page below next, it means you’re on the right track. If not, go back and make sure you have selected to make a business account.

You can now enter the name of your dental office. Make sure you have no spelling mistakes here. This will be the name of your YouTube Channel and will be visible to the public. We advise that you use the exact name found on your Google My Business listing.

Step 5

Next, you will need to upload a profile picture for your account. We recommend using a high-quality image of your practice’s logo. This is good for brand recognition, which is a huge part/goal of advertising on Youtube.

You will also need to “Tell viewers about your channel”. Here you should provide information about your dental office, the type of services you provide, and where you are located. Have anything unique about your office/brand? What sets you apart from your competitors? Tell people about it in your bio!

Finally, you will be asked to “Add links to your sites”. Copy and paste your website address first. This is very important as it will allow users to be redirected from your YouTube channel to your website. If you have other active social media channels, you should also provide them here. Click “Save and Continue”.

Step 6

You will now land on your newly created YouTube Channel. Great job! If you would like to customize your page even further to make sure it represents your branding, click on the “Customize Channel” button.

YouTube also has tons of tutorials for your viewing pleasure. So if you have any questions, just search what you need.

That’s all folks! You are now the proud owner of your very own YouTube channel. Can you guess what’s next? It’s time to create new content to post to your new channel. So hop on to the next task and let’s get-er-done!
