Holidays are such as Christmas is a once-a-year opportunity to not only market your services in a jolly way, but also make your existing patients feel like they are a part of your dental family. Showing patients you care, is a great way to ensure patient retention, and when patients feel you value them, they are more likely to stick with you.

Stand Out Like A Snowflake On Social Media

For December, it’s time to get your Christmas spirit showing. As early as the first week of December, you should begin to change the cover picture of your Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, and other social media channels, to something Christmas themed. Remember how we showed you to make a graphic on Canva in Box 1? This is the perfect opportunity to improve your graphic design skills on this easy to use platform. If you forgot how to use Canva, be sure to freshen up your memory by taking a glimpse at “How to create a graphic in Canva”.

  1. Go to Canva
  2. From the Home Page, select “templates” from the very top toolbar. Then click on “Facebook Cover” which you will see below the “social media” section. This will take you to the design area. In the “Search Templates” box, search the word “Christmas” and you will be provided with a wide variety of cover graphics. Now, before you just select the first one you see, remember, the important thing is to make sure your branding is consistent. Make changes to the template color and edit in your company logo to give it a more professional look.

In addition to updating your cover pictures, you should also make social media posts that are Christmas themed throughout the month. Remember to not just use stock photography. Try and get some original content by taking a few pictures of the staff/dentists with Christmas props. Take some pictures of the office or with patients. You can also make Christmas-themed graphics on Canva if you wish to make a post about limited-time offers.

Wrap The Year Up With A Joyful Email / Postcard / Phone Call

It’s important to make your existing patient base feel valued this time of year. Christmas marketing should not just be about acquiring new patients, but also showing existing patients how much you care about them. We recommend one of the following options.

If you want to do something a little bit more old school, but be as authentic as can be, sending a postcard is another option. Now, sending an actual physical postcard might not be the best option for everybody, unless you have the time to write it by hand. The next best thing is sending a digital postcard. This one-step, above a regular email, will certainly be more engaging to your patients.

If you want to make your own postcard, you can do so in Canva. They offer a free online postcard maker. This would be the best option if you want to save money. If you do have a bit of spare change in the budget, you can also use “My Postcard” which allows you to create and send your own personalized photo postcards and greeting cards anywhere in the world.

Phone Call

If you want to put a personal touch to wishing your patients a very Merry Christmas, give them a call. Ask how they are doing and what their plans are for this holiday season. We understand that you can’t call every single patient as this would take days, especially if you’re a big practice. But if you can, call your most loyal patients and show them how much you care.

Donate To A Charity And Post About It On Social Media

Christmas is the season of giving. A great way to show the public that you care and want to do your best is to make the world a better place by donating to a charity. You can choose a charity in your community and take food parcels/gifts etc to make somebody else Christmas that much more special. Be sure to take pictures while you are there and share the experience with the online community. You can then boost the post on Facebook to make sure more people see it. We showed you how to boost a post in Box 1, here’s a link to that task in case you forgot.

Decorate Your Office And Provide Small Gifts To Patients

If you are going to be taking pictures of your dental practice to post to social media, it’s important to look the part! This will also give you existing patients that very merry feeling when they walk into your practice in December. You can also have little gifts waiting for your patients after their appointments which is another way to show them that you care. Something sweet to take home should be more than enough!

Christmas Competitions

Christmas is also a great time to run competitions ads, both online and at your physical location. You could do a lucky draw where patients throw their names into a bowl at the front desk. You can also run a “Christmas competition” where somebody can win a free teeth cleaning or teeth whitening (if you want to target a younger demographic).
